Watching the MDA Jerry Lewis Telethon on Labor Day weekend is an annual tradition for our family. Now more than ever, we encourage the people of Malibu to adopt our tradition of tuning in to the broadcast, which raises funds to support the Muscular Dystrophy Association and its programs to benefit people with more than 40 neuromuscular diseases.
Having a child with neuromuscular disease, as I do, really makes you appreciate the kindness and helpfulness of others. We’ve come to think of everyone at MDA and its clinic at UCLA and USC as family. MDA offers top-notch medical care and other programs to help us face the challenges of living with a neuromuscular disease.
It gives us hope knowing that MDA researchers are hard at work searching for treatments and cures. Meanwhile, MDA continues helping us pay for much needed medical equipment and offering support groups and summer camps for kids like my daughter. People in the Malibu community make these programs possible through their Telethon pledges and contributions.
Originating from the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills, the Telethon will be broadcast in Malibu on Sunday, Sept.4, beginning at 6 p.m. on KCAL 9. It can also be seen on the Internet at www.mdausa.org. By supporting MDA’s Telethon, you’re making a vital difference in our lives and the lives of many other families in our community and across the country.
