This past Sunday, the Children’s Lifesaving Foundation was able to raise $30,000 for its four programs. The Nautica Malibu Triathlon allowed the CLF 30 spots in the event so competitors could raise money for their causes as part of the team “The CLF Challenge for Kids.”
Since 1993, the Children’s Lifesaving Foundation has served more than 50,000 homeless and at-risk families through its four programs. They focus on adding a better quality of life overall through recreational, educational and housing opportunities to at-risk and homeless youth and families in the Los Angeles area.
The CLF also had its full season of its Camp4All Surf Camp at Zuma Beach this summer, which served more than 1,000 homeless and at-risk youth from Downtown Los Angeles shelters and agencies serving homeless and at-risk youth and families.
The summer was sponsored by Topson-Downs of California, which is run by Malibu residents John Poyer and Joe Wirht, as well as the City of Malibu and the Carrie Estelle Doheny Foundation. The CLF hired local Malibu Makos Surf Camp, which also donated one camp day per week to the Camp4All Program.
“The Malibu community has been so very responsible in keeping our programs alive in this economy,” CLF Founder Maria D’Angelo said. “We have been fortunate, and are always ready to welcome in new members, individuals and local Malibu families to our work.”
Last December, Pat Benatar and Neil Giraldo hosted a benefit holiday concert at the Malibu Performing Arts Center for CLF, which included guest stars Dick Van Dyke, Brent Moon and comedian Brad Garrett.
