Los Angeles County Sheriff’s homicide detectives, along with investigators from the Los Angeles County Department of Coroner, were seeking information after the body of a male thought to be in his 50s was found on Broad Beach Monday morning.
Law enforcement officials said there were no signs of foul play, though homicide detectives were called in after the discovery of the body, called in at around 6:20 a.m. Monday.
“[It is] currently being investigated by our homicide detectives,” Sgt. Brad Johnson of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station told The Malibu Times. “Coroner took possession of the body. There does not appear to be any type of criminal activity involved.”
Coroner’s officials added the man may have taken his own life, though investigations were ongoing.
“It’s being investigated as a possible suicide — it’s still being investigated,” Brian Ellis, chief of operations for the coroner’s office, said. “[The remains] evidently may have washed ashore onto the beach. The case is still being worked on, so I don’t have a full narrative.”
Neither Johnson nor Ellis could provide a description of the condition of the remains found on the beach, a description of the body or an identification for the remains.
