The Malibu United Methodist Church will celebrate the beginning of Advent, which ushers in the forthcoming holiday season, with a special presentation of Howelett Smith’s “The Carpenter” on Saturday at 7 p.m. “The Carpenter” is a two-act production that depicts the life of Jesus in words and music. It includes a musical mixture of gospel, jazz, spiritual and traditional. The performers include the 20-voice Harmony Choir, a narrator and featured soloists, including actor/singer Rod Perry, supported by the Howlett Smith Trio.
