MALIBU FIRE SAFETY LIAISON HIRED
The City hired Jerry Vandermeulen as its new Fire Safety Liaison. Jerry will be working on wildfire preparedness and protection programs, and is available to assist residents with their fire safety concerns. Jerry can be reached at 310-456-2489 ext. 387 or JVandermeulen@MalibuCity.org. Jerry has 35 years of fire service experience with the Kern County and Ventura County Fire Departments. For the past seven years, Jerry worked as a Battalion Chief with the Ventura County Fire Department in the Conejo Valley, as well as in El Rio and the unincorporated areas of Ventura County, including Malibu.

City Hall – Tuesdays & Thursdays 8AM – 12
The Fire Rebuild Counter is open every day to assist residents with any questions related to rebuilding their homes, cleaning up their property, placing temporary structures, and more. An L.A. County Fire Department official is stationed at City Hall every Tuesday and Thursday, 9:00 AM to 12:00 PM to offer specific guidance on Fire Department requirements for rebuilding. The City has hired additional professional contract staff to support the Planning, Public Works and Building Safety Department rebuilding activities.

Rainwater and Greywater Workshop Malibu Smart Conservation Program
Offers Residents Tools to Design Fire Safe Landscapes &Conserve Water While Rebuilding or Maintaining a Beautiful Landscape
The West Basin Municipal Water District. Is offering a new program to provide the resources to combine water-efficiency and technology to more effectively conserve water while helping to protect the significant investments that homeowners have made to their property.” At the May 29 Workshop, participants will learn how to safely and legally use cisterns and rain barrels to capture rainwater and re-use greywater from washing machines for outdoor irrigation. Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission Town Hall Meeting 9:30 AM City Hall
The Los Angeles County Sheriff Civilian Oversight Commission will hold a Town Hall meeting and give their feedback to the Oversight Commission and the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station about their experience with the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department’s response to the Woolsey Fire, homelessness, and other public safety issues in the community.
The event will also feature a Resource Fair with information about community services from numerous County Departments, including: the Department of Mental Health, District Attorney’s Office – Bureau of Victim, Services, Public Health – Community Health Services, Office of Emergency Management, Civilian Oversight Commission, Sheriff’s Department – Community Law Enforcement Partnership Program, Community Outreach, Sheriff’s Department – Homeless Outreach, Sheriff’s Department – Mental Evaluation Teams, and the Sheriff’s Department – Disaster Services Unit. Losing a home is a traumatic event is very challenging. Unfortunately, the construction process, whether site building or going prefab, can also be challenging! City Offers Disaster Prep & Resources Event 10-3
Safety and preparedness presentations and vendor booths will include the Los Angeles County Fire and Sheriff’s Departments, the miniature therapy horses that work with the Sheriff’s Department, the American Red Cross, the Los Angeles County Office of Emergency Management, Emergency Café, KBUU 99.1 FM, fire prevention and emergency preparedness equipment and service vendors. There will also be wild land fire preparedness presentations. This fun, free event will also be a great opportunity to teach kids about emergency preparedness.
