Don’t block our view

As neighbors of the Point Dume Plaza we have eagerly awaited the return of the market and the completion of the renovation. However, many of us do not like the landscaping changes for a very important reason; the tall palms and trees interrupt the view of Zuma canyon from our homes and from the street. As one neighbor commented, “Zuma canyon is one of the most underrated views in Malibu.” And as many residents in Malibu have learned via litigation, a view adds to property value and should not be impinged upon. We enjoy our view and as it is now the view has been compromised by the palms and will be blocked in a few short months once the trees planted between the palms grow taller. I dearly wish the landscaper had taken the time to walk across the street and consider the impact on the view from the street and from our homes. The landscaping seems to be an attempt to aggrandize the shopping center. I would prefer that it minimize the visual impact of the center and compliment the canyon view. I hope Mr. Marquis will reconsider the landscaping at the Point Dume center.
