Just when I thought John Mazza couldn’t be more outrageous, he proves me wrong. There he was at the Planning Commission meeting ranting and raving against council members Barovsky, Stern and Sibert because he disagreed with one of their votes. He accused them of having “hidden agendas,” not reading their agenda staff reports and ignoring the law. He even compared their vote to Dick Cheney’s approving “torture memos.” Subtlety is not Mazza’s strong suit.
The reason for his hysterical outburst was that these council members did not rubber-stamp staff’s recommendation. I guess he forgot that before he got on the planning commission, he made a career of testifying that staff was a bunch of incompetent boobs. Then, after his self-serving imitation of the congressman who screamed, “You lie,” Mazza blithely voted against a staff recommendation in his own agenda.
Mazza is a constant critic of Barovsky and Stern. (Probably because they won election to the City Council and he didn’t.) So when he declared that politics should never come into play, I had to applaud his hypocrisy.
