Seven-year-old surfer Sean Saldamando placed first in his division at the Malibu Makos Surf Competition, and won a surfboard at the Aug. 24 end-of-summer party for the camp attended by 400 children from Malibu and neighboring areas.
Sean competed in the 11-year-old and under division. Last year, he received some pointers from world-class professional surfer Kalani Robb, who he met at Makos Surf Camp. While most children wanted pictures and autographs, Sean asked if Robb would surf with him.
Sean is a green belt at Joey Escobar Karate in Malibu and is in the third grade at Webster Elementary School.
