The Malibu chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution focused on outreach to American war veterans during its Nov. 5 meeting at the home of Bonnie Bates.
Members brought donations of new clothing and personal items to be given to patients at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital on Veterans Day. The effort is organized each year by World War II veteran and Malibu DAR member Marj Dukatz. Dukatz will also speak at the Malibu Veterans Day event Friday at Legacy Park.
The group also collected donations for its annual holiday project “Adopt-A-Family” to benefit veterans. Through the program, the Salvation Army Haven, located at the VA hospital, designates recipient families, gathers wish lists and makes arrangements for the Malibu group to provide gifts to veterans and their families.
Also during the meeting, National Daughters of the American Revolution certificates were presented to Mary Lynn Martin, for her first-place win in a regional fiber arts competition recently, and to Annette Keller, for her creation of a new website for the Malibu chapter. Additionally, new member Jerri Churchill displayed a family history quilt she created as a result of her genealogy research.
