A new historical novel by Malibu author Glen Craney recalls the 1932 clash between U.S. troops and the “Bonus Army,” veterans from World War I who descended upon Washington, D.C., jobless and destitute demanding early payment of a cash bonus due to them for their service. Instead, attempts to clear the protesters turned violent when U.S. soldiers fired on the veterans and lit fire to their encampment.
