Traffic Collision Forces Closure on PCH Near Big Rock

[Update: 7:25 p.m.]: As of 6:27 p.m., all lanes on PCH near Big Rock have been reopened. Expect delays heading eastbound.


[Update: 3:38 p.m.]: Lanes are still closed as traffic investigators conduct their investigation on scene, according to a spokesperson from the sheriff’s station.

As of 3:37 p.m., the closures could last for 45 minutes to an hour at least.


[Update: 2:43 p.m.]: Two people were cut out of their vehicle using “jaws of life” type tools, according to Inspector Randall Wright of the LA County Fire Department. The two were transported to local medical facilities in two different helicopters.

Three people were deemed “delayed status” and are currently waiting to be transported for treatment. Another four people were treated on scene for minor injuries.

According to a spokesperson from the sheriff’s station, they expect the lanes to open up as soon as they “can get the tow trucks down there,” estimating another 30-45 minutes at least.


[Update: 2:17 p.m.]: A spokesperson from the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station confirmed that “four to five cars” were involved in the collision.

A representative from the Los Angeles County Fire Department confirmed that two people were found trapped by the accident. The department is “currently assessing up to nine” people involved in the accident.

One critical patient has been airlifted out of the area. Another helicopter is being sent to the scene.

The city sent out another alert at around 2 p.m. stating that all lanes near the 20100 block of Pacific Coast Highway have been closed until further notice.


Several vehicles were involved in a traffic collision near 20102 Pacific Coast Highway west of Big Rock, according to a spokesperson for the Lost Hills/Malibu Sheriff’s Station.

The collision was reported at 1:22 p.m.

Though the number of vehicles was unclear, the spokesperson did confirm that some of the people involved suffered injuries. A LA County Fire and Air Operations helicopter was deployed to airlift a few of the injured to a hospital.

The westbound lanes are currently closed; expect delays. According to an alert from the City of Malibu, the eastbound lanes remain open.

No word yet as to the cause for the collision.
