There’s a difference between a war and and an occupation. We found this out in VietNam in 1975, and Israel is finding it out today in the Middle East. You can “win” a war, but you cannot “win” an occupation in an age of cell phones, laptops, and sophisticated small arms and explosives. We “won” the war in Iraq when we took Baghdad, but we will never “win” the occupation of Iraq or Afghanistan. The “War on Terror” can only be fought successfully by a strong homeland defense and an endless series of individual strikes against selected terrorist strongholds. Let’s not continue to use 20th century battle tactics in this 21st century war.
