Julie Ellerton, The Malibu Times multimedia director, went around town and asked locals this question:
“How safe are you feeling in Malibu?”
Here are their responses.
“I feel safe, the only thing I worry about is the traffic on the weekends. Now that it’s summertime, it’s crazy, crazy. It scares me, some people don’t have car insurance and there’s been a lot of accidents on PCH. It’s stressful.” — Lily Castro
“I still feel pretty safe. I know there’s the shooting (at Malibu Creek State Park) but I guess I trust our policemen and policewomen, that they’ll continue to keep us safe out here in Malibu.” — Jake Hughes
“I feel very safe in Malibu. I think that we have a great police force and great first responders. Do crazy things happen in all different parts of the world? Yes, of course, but I still think this is a very safe community, especially with the locals really trying to make it a safe place, too.” — Joel Dunn
“I’m feeling really safe in Malibu, I feel like everyone holds Malibu as sort of like a safe, sanctified place. We have the beach, we have so much to preserve. The dynamic has changed a bit but it doesn’t make me feel less safe, it almost feels more inclusive. With all we have developing, we can share it more—it’s almost breaking down our barriers. — David Robinson Hicks
