Water rates for Malibu customers of the Las Virgenes Municipal Water District (LVMWD) are going up as of Jan. 1, 2018. While an increase was expected in accordance with the water supplier’s five-year rate schedule announced in 2015, an additional five cent “pass through” was just announced in a special letter sent to customers this week in Malibu, Agoura Hills and Calabasas. The “pass through” fee is set by LVMWD’s wholesale supplier, the Metropolitan Water District of Southern California. The “pass through” rate had not been known at the time the five-year plan was adopted. Excessive water usage can now be charged as high as $5.08 per HCF (hundred cubic feet), which comes to roughly 748 gallons of potable water.
LVMWD continues to urge its customers to use water efficiently.
