The Jan. 11 issue of The Malibu Times had two most interesting stories on the front page: “Fire Destroys Malibu Road Homes” and “City and Conservancy could Reach Deal. The “deal” is that overnight camping would be allowed in Charmlee Park. The homes in La Chusa Highlands are below Charmlee Park. Are these Malibu homes not as important as the homes on Malibu Road?
Charmlee Park, like Bluffs Park, is within the city limits of Malibu. The Malibu Times reports that “Hogan said on Tuesday that Charmlee Park is preferable to Corral Canyon because people do not live close to Charmlee Park. Camping is currently illegal on the city-owned Charmlee Park, and Hogan said she is exploring ways to change that rule.” The city attorney of Malibu wants to override a deed restriction so that overnight camping can be allowed within the city limits of Malibu. The fire danger associated with unsupervised overnight camping is obvious. What is Christi Hogan thinking?
