Malibu Times Multimedia Director Julie Ellerton hit the streeets this week to ask, “What do you think about the world’s uproar over Cecil the lion?”
“It makes me angry because animals have no voice — people do. So when something unfair like this happens to an animal, we are the only ones who can speak for them.”
“I think it’s interesting that this event specifically sparked such an uproar because this has been going on for a really long time. We’ve had people going hunting on safaris for years — since the 1800s … longer. And I think it’s been an issue that entire time.”
“I think what happened was really horrible … I was just so sad. Of course, I hear a lot of uproar, too that so many people are dying in the world, and a lion dies and people react this way. But, you know, every living thing is valuable.”
“I hate hunting. I don’t understand the sport. And I think the dentist would have been better suited to take his $70,000 and start a clinic for homeless children, where dentists come and volunteer, and take care of kids teeth.”
“Regardless of the way they hunt there, it’s really, really sad when you can … basically go out into the wild and kill anything that you feel like killing … I think it’s a shame that people … would do such a shameful thing and kill animals that should be protected.”
