The City of Malibu announced that its Planning Department will be changing public counter hours to Monday through Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 12:30 p.m., as of Thursday, Feb. 1. The department is implementing a pilot program “due to staffing levels and development activity.”

Originally, the counter hours were Monday through Thursday, 7:30 a.m. – 5:30 p.m., and Friday, 7:30 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

The public counter will now be closed in the afternoons, unless there are scheduled appointments for application submittal or public records research. According to the city, “These hours will allow planners to focus on processing planning permit reviews.”

People can submit minor applications (such as temporary use permits, special event permits, over-the-counter applications, planning clearances, signs permits, primary view determinations, archeology clearances, zoning clearances and tobacco retailer registration), ask planning questions or obtain public records during the hours.
