[Update: 3:02 p.m.] Kanan Dume Road was fully open in both directions by 3:02 p.m. Friday, Jan. 6, following a one-lane closure due to a vehicle over the side of the road.

According to spokespeople from the Los Angeles County Fire Department, one patient was transported to an area trauma center following the accident, in which a silver sedan went over the side of Kanan Dume and came to rest about 50 feet below the road.

One lane of northbound Kanan Dume Road was closed early Friday afternoon as emergency responders worked to rescue the driver of a vehicle that went over the side of the canyon a little after noon. The accident and rescue efforts took place about one mile north of PCH.

The vehicle was about 50 feet down an embankment alongside Kanan Dume, and a combined team of LA County Fire Department, LA County Sheriff’s, Malibu Search and Rescue, and California Highway Patrol was working to free one victim.

“As far as I know, there’s one vehicle over the edge; it was about 50 feet down,” Sgt. Braden of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station said around 12:50 p.m. “I know there’s one [person involved], but I don’t know the condition of the person at this point.”
