Emergency PCH Lane Closure Today in Pac Pal

Late word from the city of Malibu … emergency water main repairs are needed for the supply pipe to Malibu.

One lane only … east of Sunset … starting at 9:30 this morning.

Sunset is a good alternative.

The 101 even better … at least until 3 in the afternoon or so … when it gets jammed.

Naked Man In Bedroom, Screams Send Him Running

We’re getting more details … now … on the burglary that brought in a sheriff’s helicopter on Sunday.

A Trancas Beach woman tells deputies that she woke up to a naked intruder in her bedroom.

Her screams caused the man to run off.

At least eight sheriff’s deputies and a helicopter searched the area.

The suspect was found a short time later … with his clothes on … near Pacific Coast Highway at Morning View Drive.

Although the man had been naked and reportedly standing close to the sleeping woman … deputies have not determined that a sex crime was his intent.

The suspect … an apparent drifter … had been spotted by deptuies in the Zuma Beach area earlier.

This was the second burglary that caused a helicopter search and manhunt in recent weeks in the Trancas area.

Two weeks earlier …. two men were found burglarizing a home on Sea Level Drive East.

One of those burglars escaped into the predawn darkness and is still being sought … while his accomplice was arrested.

Deputies say the two cases were coincidental … and not related.

SM Police Say A Bicyclist In The Dark Was Killed on PCH

Police in Santa Monica now say it was a bicyclist who was struck and killed on P C H in the darkness … by a car that had just emerged from the McClure Tunnel.

This was Sunday evening … on P C H just north of the Santa Monica Pier.

The bicyclist was hit at about 7 o’clock Sunday evening … in the after-sunset dark.

Santa Monica Police are asking anyone who may have witnessed the crash …. or had seen the bicylclist on P C H just north of the freeway tunnel … to call them.

Malibu’s Emergency Services Director at Norcal Fires

With the death toll now 41 in Northern California … firefighters are still battling advancing flames in a few areas.

And a big fire has broken out west of San Jose.

In Los Angeles … a forest fire on Mount Wilson is burning this morning … visible from Santa Monica … and it may burn 600 acres.

The city of Malibu has sent its public safety coordinator .. Susan Duenas … to Santa Rosa to assist in their emergency command post.

Duenas had been setting up this week’s earthquake drill … which was to include a big drill at Malibu City Hall … which was to include setting up the city’s emergency operations center.

Those plans are cancelled.

Texas Energy Company Sent Packing From Oxnard

A huge victory for coastal advocates just up the coast … and upwind … from Malibu …

A proposed natural gas power plant in Ventura County has been dropped … by the builder … N-R-G Energy.

They asked state regulators yesterday to suspend review of the plans … according to the Los Angeles Times.

Oxnard’s beaches already have two electric generating stations … and people there say that just because Oxnard has a lot of poor people … doesn’t mean they should have every power plant in 200 miles of coast.

Add in to that … California has allowed entrepreneurs to overbuild capacity …. primarily with natural gas plants,.

The state has so much clean energy … from solar and wind … that it has to shut down some plants while paying other states to take the power California can’t use.

The overbuilding has added billions of dollars to ratepayers’ bills in recent years.

Plus … the 262-megawatt Oxnard power plant would be a significant source of smog just upwind from Malibu.

The L A Times reports that the Houston Texas electricity company is givng up.

This is the second time in 10 years that a Houston company has been thwarted in Oxnard.

A floating  L N G import terminal that would have been visible from Malibu was also shot down . 10 years ago.

Malibu Farm Set For Newport Beach

The website Eater Los Angeles reports popular oceanside restaurant Malibu Farm is expanding to Orange County.

Lido Marina Village in Newport Beach will see a Malibu Farm restaurant open sometime next spring.

The new restaurant should help to anchor Lido Marina.

It will have the same California casual menu as can be currently found from the namesake location up here in Malibu.

In addition to the Malibu Farms restaurant and cafe on Malibu Pier .… there are versions of it in the Four Seasons Hotel in Lanai, Hawaii, and at the Eden Roc Hotel in Miami.

Malibu rancher Helene Henderson started Malibu Farm as a pop-up.

It features seasonal, sustainable, and farm fresh cuisine.
