Hawthorne native Ashley Lahey is making a name for herself as Pepperdine’s women’s tennis standout at the U.S. Open Juniors tournament.
After besting Czech Republic’s Michaela Bayerlova, China’s Zima Du, and dominating Czech Republic’s Lucie Kankova and USA’s Natasha Subhash, Lahey reached the round of 16 at the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center. In the round, Lahey competed against USA’s Sofia Kenin, who later swiped the match win with a final set score of 6-3.
Although this was Lahey’s first appearance in the Open, her competitive edge was initiated far beyond her collegiate career. Awarded Southern California Tennis Association Player of the year in 2015, Lahey ranked No. 1 amongst her Southern Californian junior peers in 2015 and 2016.
