Newly elected California State Senator Henry Stern, originally of Malibu, was sworn in during a lively ceremony on Sunday, Jan. 29, in Agoura Hills.
The ceremony, which began with a traditional Chumash blessing and included a swearing-in by California Supreme Court Justice Goodwin Liu, included remarks from several elected officials — and ended with a performance by the Oak Park Marching Band. Stern placed his hand on a copy of the California Constitution held by his mother and grandmother as he took the oath of office.
In the speech following the ceremony, Stern laid out priorities such as clean energy legislation and empowering young people to have a say in California’s future.
“Each and every district up and down this state is going to hear from this generation,” Stern said.
