Oceanside resident Kaitlin Maguire won the Wave of the Day award, as well as a cash prize from Jericho Poppler, in the Miss Malibu Pro Women’s Longboarding Invitational. The event took place at Surfrider Beach on Aug. 9 and 10. Maguire also won the final. Makayla Smith was awarded runner-up.
The event featured practice sessions, 30-minute heats, double nonelimination rounds, one-on-one heats from the quarters on and a one-hour final. Festivities featured women who compete on the ASP World Tour, ASP WQS Tour, Western Surfing Association, NSSA and more.
