    CALLING ON ANGELS

    By Kim Devore/ Entertainment Writer

It was a magical day in Malibu as Larry and Laurie Weitz opened their hearts and their home for a seaside concert and fundraiser. Dozens of friends and family gathered outside on their cozy patio for munchies and music to benefit the Angels on Earth Foundation.

Buffet tables were draped with black and white linen, wrapped with shiny silver bows and topped with fern leaves and seashells. Arrangements of blush roses and white hydrangeas surrounded a feast of cappellacci alla trasteverina, insalate mista con mozzarella and spezzato di pollo fantasia, otherwise known as pasta, salad and chicken.

But the main course at this beach bash was a special performance by a very talented artist who goes by the name of Marino. The self-taught guitar player has composed a special CD for Angels on Earth, an organization devoted to the healing powers of music.

“There is a true affinity between music and healing. It’s the same with color therapy and aroma therapy,” Marino explains. “Healing involves the mind, body and spirit and there are many dimensions.”

The artist has played with musicians around the world and even toured with Guns N’ Roses. Guns N’ Roses? “Would this be heavy metal healing,” I inquired.

“No,” he assured me. “I’m a rock ‘n’ roll musician, but I play classical guitar as well.”

And it didn’t take long for Marino to prove his point. As the sun set, he took the makeshift stage, backed up by a couple of pals playing the sax and keys.

The sound was a relaxing mix of Kenny G, spiced with a pinch of Santana. With the waves crashing at his back, Marino played on. After a rather hectic week, it was just what the doctor ordered. Everyone went home with lower blood pressure, lifted spirits and memories of an evening that was just divine.

    GLAD RAGS

Malibu’s Martin Sheen is one guy who will give you the shirt off his back-if the price is right. Martin’s stylish Emmy attire will be auctioned off to the highest bidder to help raise cash for the Union of Concerned Scientists. But the TV prez isn’t the only West Winger who’s opened his heart and his wardrobe to charity. Co-star Allison Janney’s glamorous ruby red number is also up for grabs as well as Bradley Whitford’s Ralph Lauren tux.

There are nearly two-dozen fabulous frocks and satin suits on the Web site Ubid.com, which will benefit organizations from UNICEF to Cure Autism Now. So let’s face it, there’s nothing like being a little clothes-minded for a good cause.
