Called on account of rain

To moviegoers who were disappointed last week by the weather cancellation of Cine Malibu’s kick-off screening of “The Celestine Prophecy,” a fund-raiser for the Malibu Green Machine, I offer a further explanation. Spring break, mid-April, would usually be a safe bet for an outdoor event. However, the late rainy season this year forced Amy Crittenden, Parks and Recreation, and Madison Hildebrand, Malibu Green Machine, to cancel both nights of the movie.

Okay, Friday it rained, so that’s understandable why the movie was cancelled. But since Thursday was beautiful with billowy clouds in the sky, some folks might wonder, well, why didn’t you guys at least screen the movie on Thursday. Although it didn’t rain Thursday, to pull off an outdoor event at Bluffs Park ,other important factors might not be so obvious to the public (they weren’t to me until I got involved) have to be taken into consideration. Even slightly windy conditions make it impossible and unsafe to assemble the screen, and soggy grass from storms early in the week would have made it miserable for moviegoers sitting on blankets. So, please join us for our next movie event this summer when it’s hot, dry and not windy at Bluffs Park.
