Kanan Dume Road Closed Due to Brush Fire

A Los Angeles County Fire Department helicopter takes off from Pepperdine University to head to a brush fire that had broken out at Kanan Dume Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Update: 4:30 p.m.: The brush fire at Kanan Dume Road near Cavalleri Road has been put out, according to an alert from the City of Malibu.

Los Angeles County Fire Department Inspector Randall Wright confirmed that there is no active flame, but they are waiting to have full control with a mop-up procedure.

“We have our hose line all round [the area],” Wright explained.

The alert from the city reported that Kanan Dume Road is closed to southbound traffic at Tunnel 1 and northbound traffic at 3865 Kanan Dume Road. The road is expected to reopen at 5:30 p.m.


Kanan Dume Road was closed in both directions at 3:45 p.m. Tuesday, May 17 due to a small brush fire that broke out near Cavalleri Road.

The fire, which was reported by Los Angeles County Fire personnel as three small brush fires about five feet apart from each other and taking up about a quarter of an acre, was reported at 3:27 p.m. Firefighters arrived on scene at 3:36 p.m.

Personnel expressed confidence the fire would be out without damage or injury.

“They’ll knock it out in the next few minutes,” an official said.
