9:25 PM UPDATE:
Four power outages remain within City of Malibu, according to Edison officials:
1,196 customers in the Trancas / Zuma Beach area is the largest outage. After predicting power would be back at noon today (Monday), the SCE automated system now estimates power will be restored at noon Tuesday. This outage area includes Malibu High School and Juan Cabrillo Elementary.
In the Civic Center area, 56 customer accounts are blacked out. This area includes Malibu City Hall, and this power restoration estimate is 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.
In the upper Las Flores area, 191 customers are out, with their estimate time for power restoration is 2:30 p.m. Tuesday.
And in the upper Lechusa / Decker Road area, 291 customers are blacked out tonight with power restoration estimated to be 3pm Tuesday.
Edison continues to maintain that it never gave Malibu a heads up that pre-emptive power outages would be possible in the western Malibu area. Malibu city hall is positive that they were given such warnings.
Peak winds in most of Malibu never exceeded 50 mph, and the state regualtors have held SCE to a standard of power lines withstanding winds up to 92 miles per hour. We observed SCE crews on PCH repairing lines that have been damaged or substandard for some time, today, while the power was off.
At 10 p.m. or so, KBUU will sign off for the first time in 3-1/2 years. Our studios are on a generator and we do not want to disturb our neighbors with the gas engine running all night. KBUU will return to the air with a newscast at 5 a.m. or so – and will resume broadcasts earlier if the electricity comes back on.
On behalf of the staff and management of Zuma Beach FM Broadcasters, we wish you a good night.
