Editor’s note: The following letter was sent to City Councilmembers John Sibert and Laura Rosenthal.
Thank you very much for scheduling town hall visits to Bluff Park on Feb. 23 at 10 a.m. and to Charmlee Wilderness Park on March 9 at 10 a.m.
As part of your due diligence I hope you will also do a cost benefit analysis of the land swap to the city. Since trading the city’s heritage park, acquired by a previous City Council, is a momentous act, you might want to consider putting it up to vote of the residents.
While I’m aware that the delay caused by allowing a vote by the residents would not sit well with Joe Edmiston, I’d like to remind you that he is still just a public servant, not all powerful, and acquisition of state Bluffs Park property could be accomplished without his approval. Please evaluate other ways of acquiring the developable part of Bluffs Park and also take into consideration the city’s potential liability if they own the landslide portion.
I’m counting on both of you to do the right thing.
