Seventeen Arrests Made During DUI Checkpoint

A DUI checkpoint conducted by the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station resulted in the arrest of 17 motorists on Friday, July 24, according to information provided by the Sheriff’s Station.

One motorist was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence and six unlicensed drivers were arrested and sent to court.

More than 1,500 motorists passed through the checkpoint and roughly 1,000 drivers were checked between 7 p.m. and 3 a.m.

Statistics from the July 24 checkpoint include:

– 1,583 vehicles drove through the checkpoint.

– 1,095 drivers were checked.

– One driver was arrested for DUI. 

– Six unlicensed drivers were arrested and sent to court.

– Five motorists driving on suspended licenses were arrested and sent to court.

– Five suspects with warrants were arrested and sent to court.

– Six vehicles were released per checkpoint release procedures.

Funding for the checkpoints is provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety.

“DUI/driver’s License checkpoints have been shown to lower DUI deaths and injuries,” a release from the Sheriff’s Department stated. “A major component of these checkpoints are the deterrent effects it has on those who might drive drunk or drug impaired, bringing about more awareness and encouraging everyone to use sober designated drivers.”
