Longtime Malibu resident Trudi Dieterle died on Feb. 5 at the age of 86.
“Her friends and the family she made during her life will miss her generous spirit, bright intellect and curiosity in all things,” a loved one wrote to The Malibu Times. “Her love of sharing stories, collecting, re-purposing and crossword puzzles was limitless.”
Born in Los Angeles to Austrian and German parents, Dieterle lived in Hancock Park, Westwood and Mar Vista before Malibu became her home.
“She enjoyed over 30 years as a Malibu resident, and was loved by the community,” a loved one wrote.
Her lifetime included a career at Beverly Hills Van & Storage as the secretary to the president, and a second career as the business owner of the Trash & Treasure stores on Venice Boulevard in Mar Vista.
“As the colorful owner, she made friends with everyone and was an adored community asset,” a loved one wrote. “Her sparkling blue eyes and smile will be missed and remembered by all who knew her.”
A celebration of a life will be held at a later date, and donations in her name may be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA). Dieterle requested her body be donated to science through the UCLA body donor program.
