I find it interesting that right above the article on the Santa Monica School Board pulling the plug on a Malibu district, The Malibu Times features an ad for Oaks Christian [School]—wonder if that has some special meaning.
Over the last several years, student enrollment in Malibu schools has been on the decline. Drug rehabs and short-term Airbnb rentals have taken over the landscape here in Malibu. The price to purchase and rent have skyrocketed in our community, making it harder for families to rent or purchase a home in Malibu.
The City Council has failed to deal with the issues confronting Malibu and the result will continue to be a declining long-term family unit with children living in our community.
It’s a sad situation but it’s not entirely the Santa Monica school board’s fault. The city needs to accept its share of the blame.
