While driving down Malibu Road the other day, my spirit sank at the realization that O’Neill’s Art Studio no longer existed. I knew it was coming, Katie O’Neill warned us all, but the reality of the studio gone from that block hit me in my core. I wish the new owner’s luck in their business but missing O’Neill’s in that spot saddens me greatly. O’Neill’s Art Studio changed my life forever as it did so many residents of Malibu. O’Neill’s not only taught drawing and painting but offered an open environment of trust so rarely found today. It served so many needs as art always does, and gave its students a peaceful time away from the world.
I met so many wonderful people there including my lovely son- in-law. So to Pat, Ellen, Carol and Pam, I will miss painting with you, but I will mostly miss Virginia and Katie. Thank you for teaching me to see.
