Officials arrested 2,313 people for driving under the influence in Los Angeles County during the sheriff’s department’s end of summer DUI crackdown from Aug. 16 until Sept. 2. Two drivers were arrested on felony DUI charges causing death, according to a release from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. The increased enforcement was conducted by 100 law enforcement agencies throughout the county.

This year’s end of summer DUI arrests are up from last year. During the same 18-day period in 2012, 2,098 DUI arrests were made.

Funding for the DUI enforcement program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
