MHS surf team qualifies for national competition

Malibu High School’s surf team placed fourth in the 2011 National Scholastic Surfing Association’s Interscholastic High School and Middle School State Championship, earning the team a trip to the national competition. During their first trip to the state competition, the surfers competed against 12 high schools from throughout California.

MHS surfer sophomore Andrew Jacobson finished fourth in the Final for Men’s Varsity Shortboard. His points in the men’s final helped Malibu High win its first team trophy.

Junior Dimitri Papavassiliou also racked up many points for the team by placing 4th in the repercharge heat

The MHS surf team will compete against teams from the East Coast and Hawaii at the 2011 NSSA Interscholastic National Championships June 16-18 at Salt Creek in Dana Point.
