Dr. Steven Grahek

Dr. Steven Grahek is known variously by his neighbors and friends as “Doc” or “Mayor of Point Dume” due to his medical background and many activities. He cofounded and continues to help organize the Point Dume 4th of July parade, which ends with barbecue, prizes and a patriotic program.

“The Parade was begun with the cooperation of a number of people and the help of Point Dume Assoc.,” Jerry Anderson wrote in his letter nominat- ing Dr. Grahek for a Dolphin Award. “In the first parade, Steven had a flatbed trailer loaded with music, decorations and people. Neighbors joined in on foot, skateboards, antique cars and horseback. Last year was the 14th annual parade and there were over 800 people participating with others on the sidelines cheering them on.”
For his part, Grahek says the parade “began with a few beat-up pick-ups and a bulldozer!”
Grahek has also been a member of the Malibu

Kiwanis Club for over a decade, and spends Labor Day weekends at the annual Chili Cook-Off as the chili contest coordinator. In addition, he helps the Kiwanis Club in their fundraising efforts for local children’s organizations by holding private concerts on his own property. Last August 13, the “Grahek Private Amphitheatre” featured a performance by “Mystique.”

The “Doc” also volunteers as an event co-host for the Malibu Ballet and Performing Arts Society’s annual production of the Nutcracker Suite Ballet, and played the part of the magician “Herr Drosselmeyer” for seven years.

Grahek became involved early on in the annual Father Daughter Valentine’s Dance at Malibu Presbyterian Church, where he serves as a deacon. He is also a donor to the Malibu High School Shark Fund, and funded the “Deborah & Steven Grahek Dance Chair” at the local Montgomery House for Music & Architecture.

Grahek has delighted his Point Dume neighbors with “a multitude of recycled, repurposed yard objects,” a menagerie of rescued farm animals, bulldozer driving lessons and horse drawn carriage rides.
