Good deed for children

At the end of the regular AYSO soccer season, the Malibu Little League takes over Bluffs Park as they rightfully should. Those children who play baseball need a place to play and practice. But because Malibu has no other fields, it has left the girls U14 All-Star Soccer team and the other All-Star soccer teams with no field upon which to play or practice.

Last year my daughter was on one of the top 10 AYSO soccer teams in the nation, and second in the state of California. They proudly represent Malibu. The girls have worked extremely hard and have made many sacrifices in order to excel in their sport. Next month they will be one of four teams to compete in the California State Cup, possibly becoming the best Girls U14 AYSO team in California.

It seems ridiculous to me that we are about to spend 25 million dollars on a legacy park here in Malibu that our children will not be able to use because of the deed restrictions that are being put on this property. The city’s plans show that the park will have large grassy areas that seem perfect to me for kids to play upon, so I don’t really understand why the park can’t serve two functions. One to clean up the Malibu lagoon and two to create recreational area for our children. If the park serves the two functions, it would save the city millions on ball fields.

I don’t know if anyone has asked Mr. Perenchio if out of the goodness in his heart and his legacy to the children of Malibu that he remove these conditions from the sale. So I will! Mr. Perenchio, for the sake of our children, please remove the deed restrictions. The parents of the children of Malibu would be eternally grateful.
