The Malibu High School girls Varsity basketball team opened their season in a weeklong, 8-team tournament at Viewpoint School.
Coach Andy Meyer’s young team, with only two starters returning from last year, finished in fourth place with a 2 – 2 record.
The Sharks beat Faith Baptist 31 -20 and Viewpoint 33 – 27.
They lost to Valley Christian (the tournament winner) 56-35 and to Providence 43 – 50 in double overtime.
The team was lead by co-captains Dominique Magee, a center averaging 17 points per game, and Danielle Bush, a guard averaging 11 points per game. Both players were selected to the All-Tournament team.
Coach Meyer considered the Sharks’ performance and effort in the tournament remarkably good and promising, considering the unusual amount of new varsity players on the team.
