Saturday 4:30 p.m. update: The driver of a vehicle that struck a pedestrian Friday night on eastbound Pacific Coast Highway near Malibu Canyon Road and allegedly fled the scene remained at large Saturday afternoon, a sheriff’s official said.

The pedestrian was airlifted to the hospital with non-life-threatening head injuries following the collision, which occurred shortly before 9 p.m.

Lt. Jim Royal of the Malibu/Lost Hills Sheriff’s Station said deputies at the station did not have more information about the driver as of Saturday afternoon. Initial reports indicated the car was a red Honda from the 1990s or 2000s traveling eastbound.

One eastbound lane of PCH was shut down following the accident until 10:30 p.m. Friday while investigators surveyed the scene.

Royal said traffic investigators would be back in the office Monday to work on the case, but said without an eye witness to the collision, identifying the suspect could prove difficult.
