Local cantor forms support group for gay Jewish community

Cantor Marcelo Gindlin of the Malibu Jewish Center plans on hosting a brunch this weekend for gay members of the Jewish community in Malibu. Sunday’s brunch is the first of what Gindlin hopes will be a weekly group meeting.

Gindlin said he decided to create the group to help fill what seems to be a void in Malibu for the gay Jewish community. 

“The gay Jewish population in Malibu needs a group of camaraderie,” Gindlin said.

Gindlin said he has about 15 confirmed attendees. The group is also expected to celebrate the recent Supreme Court ruling which upheld the unconstitutionality of California’s Prop 8 and struck down part of the Defense of Marriage Act.
