The Malibu Search and Rescue (SAR) team spent more than four hours rescuing a stranded hiker Wednesday evening in Malibu Creek State Park.
SAR was alerted around 6:20 p.m. that two hikers were stranded in risky conditions on the sheer face of Goat Buttes cliff in the park, according a spokesman.Â
But before rescuers arrived, one of the men was able to climb to safety on his own. The second, a 35-year-old male, had to be aided by SAR. Cloudy nighttime conditions, rain and darkness prevented the SAR team and LA County Fire Department from using a helicopter for the rescue.
“Two three-person teams of Malibu SAR personnel climbed up the mountain, set a lowering system, lowered a rescuer to the victim who then secured the victim in a harness and brought him up to the top of the cliff,” SAR Capt. David Katz said in a release.
The operation took several hours. The second hiker was reached at 10:20 p.m. Neither of the hikers was injured.
