It’s a sad commentary on Santa Monica and Malibu when a higher share of potential votes are cast to tax the residents for money to give to the college (57.6%) than are cast to elect the people who will spend the money (39.3%).
Sadder yet that many of the people I talked to while campaigning didn’t know that only Santa Monica and Malibu residents will be paying for the bond that gives no preferential tuition or class enrollment to them. Saddest of all were the many Malibu residents who said they didn’t even know they were part of the District.
I consider my campaign a success because I know that I personally informed hundreds of residents to these facts. My special thanks go to each of the 6,168 people who voted for me. I would be glad to hear from you again.
