A much anticipated Planning Commission meeting has been rescheduled from July 15 to July 29, the City of Malibu announced, after the city’s legal notices were not published by the Malibu Surfside News this week.Â
The Planning Commission was scheduled to discuss a proposed formula retail ordinance that would regulate the number of chain stores and businesses wishing to set up shop in any of Malibu’s Civic Center shopping plazas. The Monday, July 15 meeting has been cancelled, however, and rescheduled for Monday, July 29.
“Since the Surfside News was not published this week, the City was unable to meet the noticing requirements. Pursuant to the Malibu Municipal Code, zoning text amendments shall be noticed in a newspaper of general circulation no less than twenty-one (21) days before the date of a public hearing,” senior administrative assistant Patricia Salazar wrote in an email.
The future of the Surfside News is unclear after publisher Anne Soble’s son announced that his mother was hospitalized and dealing with several serious health problems. June 13 marked her final issue as publisher and editor of the Surfside, according to Mark Soble.
