Debbie Wideroe, Malibu local and visiting professor of communications at Pepperdine University, was recently awarded the Charles H. Sandage Excellence in Teaching Award by the American Academy of Advertising. She was presented the award last month at the academy’s conference in South Carolina. Wideroe is the seventh person to receive the award since it was established 16 years ago, and the third woman to be honored.
“I am truly honored to receive this prestigious award,” Wideroe said. “Teaching is my passion and a part of my soul. I’ve worked in marketing and advertising my entire career, and have always tried to bring my real world experiences and projects into the classroom.”
In addition to her teaching position at Pepperdine, Wideroe serves as director of the Communication Division Internship Program at the university. She has been working as a marketing communications executive for more than 25 years, including with a number of Fortune 500 companies and as the founder and president of her own company.
