Olive harvest season is upon us in Malibu and Malibu’s Mehrdad and Rosie Sahafi opened Villa Shiraz for the annual Olive Harvest Party last week, featuring olive foods, pickling and canning olives, and lots of community spirit. The hosts gave guests baskets to fill with olives in the orchard. Upon return, Mehrdad had guests clean the olives and then fill jars with sea salt, olives and water to cure for three months. After that first stage, jars can be refilled with oil and flavors like rosemary and lemon to cure for three more months. In spring, all guests are invited to a tasting party. Olives will be judged and awards given for best tasting olives!
The Sahafis, also owners of Malibu General Contractors and Malibu Design Associates, will host a Chamber of Commerce Sunset Mixer on Tuesday, Nov. 7, at Villa Shiraz, from 5:30-7:30 p.m. RSVP at malibu.org.
