The Calabasas Environmental Commission selected Poison Free Malibu as the recipient of the 2015 Carl Gibbs Environmental Excellence Award during its Dec. 1 meeting. The award is given to a wide array of individuals, businesses, government agencies, etc. that are committed to helping California’s environment, having demonstrated commitment or innovation above and beyond their primary mission.

Poison Free Malibu was founded by locals Kian and Joel Schulman and works to protect local wildlife in the Santa Monica Mountains by spreading information about the dangers associated with the use of anticoagulant rodenticides. In 2014, the Schulmans received a Malibu Times Dolphin Award for their efforts.

Past recipients of the Carl Gibbs Environmental Excellence Award include Dr. Deborah Bennett, Shadow Oaks Wildlife Center and The Nature of Wildworks. The award will be conferred during the Calabasas Environmental Commission’s Feb. 2 meeting.
