State Sen. Fran Pavley (D-Agoura Hills) has decided to complete her last three years in the State Senate and not enter the race to replace Henry Waxman for the 33rd Congressional District seat in US Congress.

“It would bean honor to carry the torch after his departure, but after careful thought, I have decided that I will accomplish more if I complete my last three years in the State Senate. From water, to energy to transportation and education, we have a lot of work to do,” Pavley announced in a press release on Friday.

The decision comes after Henry Waxman decided to retire from his seat in Congress this fall after 40 years in the House of Representatives. Waxman said he believes it’s time for someone young, who is committed, to make a mark. He represented the 33rd Congressional District, which includes Malibu, Beverly Hills, Santa Monica, and several other cities in west Los Angeles.

In 1982, Pavley became the first mayor for Agoura Hills. She then served three terms for the California State Assembly in 2000. Her main focuses are transportation, energy, economy, education and the environment.

Some of her accomplishments include working with the CHP to reduce DUIs on the 101 freeway, capping greenhouse admissions in California and co-authoring legislation to invest two billion in successful air quality, clean vehicle and fuel technology programs. Pavley is also the Chair of the Senate Natural Resources and Water Committee.Â
