The following was submitted as an open letter to Mayor Skylar Peak:

There was a story on CBS’ “60 Minutes” that explained the PCB poisoning of the entire town of Anniston, Ala., and the reasons behind the $700 million settlement. It also paints a clear picture of the soulless actions companies will take to protect their pocketbooks, no matter what upstanding community is destroyed.

You are a young, possible leader … so become a leader and stand up for something that’s more than taking pictures with Malibu kids for The Malibu Times, and instead stand up and protect their innocent lives. You know in your deepest self that our schools have a serious problem that’s been put on a destructive, political merry-go-round. You know in your deepest self that the EPA is manipulated and controlled by big business.

Stop playing Mayor and start being a leader that stands up for what’s right, that stands up for the people that need you — standing up so high that every community in our country will see your actions and hear your words that will finally stop the merry-go-round of injustice and its damage to innocent lives. Skylar, please stop with small politics, agendas, etc. and lead.
