Local lifeguards participate in the SoCal Paddledown relay on July 26 at Zuma Beach.

Malibu lifeguards participated in the SoCal Paddledown Lifeguard for Cancer Relay in order to help raise money for the prevention and research of skin cancer. The Paddledown is an inter-agency lifeguard paddle relay with lifeguards from Santa Barbara to San Diego. A buoy is being passed from one area to the next as a baton. Malibu lifeguards received the baton on July 26 at Zuma Beach.

Donations raised by the event will go to the John Wayne Cancer Foundation Block the Blaze campaign. Throughout the relay, more than 100 lifeguards will participate and Block the Blaze is supplying sun safety tip presentations, sunscreen and hats to more than 25,000 junior lifeguards this summer.
