The City Council approved, without discussion, a three-year contract extension for City Manager Jim Thorsen on Wednesday of last week.

According to assistant city manager Reva Feldman, Thorsen’s annual contractual salary is $200,859, with a $400 per month car allowance, 22.5 days of vacation leave and 12 days of sick leave. Thorsen’s salary could increase 2.2 percent (about $4,400) in July if the council this month approves a cost of living increase for all city employees.

Thorsen made $204,839 total in 2011, according to the office of the California State Controller. Final salary figures for 2012 have not yet been made available.

During his years as city manager thus far, Thorsen said he was proud of the city’s balanced budget and smart project spending.

“We’ve completed $50 million worth of projects over the last seven years and we still maintain a balanced budget and have increased our general fund reserves,” Thorsen said.

In the next three years, Thorsen said he has some equally ambitious goals in mind.

“We’re going to continue to improve traffic safety and complete spending Measure R funds and continue to work on water quality issues,” Thorsen said.
