In an alert sent out by the Ventura County Sheriff’s Department, Captain Garo Kuredjian advises Thomas Fire victims to be on alert as they recover and rebuild.
“During this phase we want to warn residents of scammers that might target them,” Kuredjian wrote in the alert. “Some companies use legitimate looking websites, such as firerecoverysummit.org, with a misleading list of endorsements including the Red Cross, Cal Fire, and FEMA to gain the public’s trust.”
The sheriff’s department advises those affected to carefully select contractors or other vendors.
