At mercy of greed and avarice?

Are the citizens of Malibu and other coastal communities from Santa Barbara to Santa Monica at the mercy of greed and avarice of yet another giant corporation?

The current liquefied natural gas (LNG) terminal proposals mean we will be purchasing huge amounts of LNG from Australia, with a cut for the U.S. corporations. The citizens of Malibu and our neighbors will not profit one dime from these projects, but we will pay the cost in living with the danger of massive destruction if the gas escapes and explodes.

In 1977, the Oxnard City Council did its own study, which considered safety risks. Oxnard citizens opposed the LNG project after the city showed up to 70,000 casualties could occur from such an accident. A conservative 30-mile dispersal model was used for this estimate. (Source: www.LngDanger.com.) Massive amounts of marine life and habitat will be destroyed.

Domestic sources are continuously being discovered. Why do we need terminals along our coastline? These corporations have no interest in developing alternative and renewable energy sources, and no interest in conservation. There is no money in that so just let coastal residents put up with it and keep quiet. There is an American myth that we all will become millionaires, and that the wealthy of these corporations is somehow our prosperity. It just isn’t so. The wreak havoc, take the money and run.
